Anja and Claire,

We are headed north! Carl had his things in the SUV at 6:05 and he got in to wait for me at 7:30! He was disgusted when I reminded him we were leaving at 9:00 am!

Yesterday when I called Anja, I was very brief and serious. I was very concerned about our Belle situation but also had some big work concerns occuring! Shortly before I called, we took a severe electrical storm strike that impacted our electrical service and back up power systems for all the computer servers for the entire county! We had lights and computers coming on and off, alarms sounding and then fire department personnel running into the building, etc. I needed to stay at my duty station in case we were to be evacuated, I also had a doctor appointment within the hour that I was wondering if I would make it to and a raging storm outside!!!! Whew! I made getting a call to you about Belle my priority just in case my work situation went south on me and I would not have another chance to call! At any rate, the entire computer staff was on stand by overnight and hopefully today, the damage will be repaired! I was on call until 8 am today but got a full night of sleep! Hurray! This entire week of being on call was one adventure after another!

Carl had called me just prior to all of the above happening and I knew he was uncertain about what was wrong but he was really worried so since I might only get time for one call, I called Anja. I called Beth later, sitting at a gas station on my way to the doctor’s office and then understood all was well.

Thank you Claire for sending the news clips to us! We watched them all! I saw that Belle had a kennel with a drape over it so I have created a similar setup in Carl’s room this morning before we left. We have a large dog bed in the back of the SUV for her that will fit into the kennel also. We will flip down one seat in back so we can sit next to her or she can go into the back if she chooses.

About the pictures… Carl does not like to have his picture taken. That said, he is okay with whatever you want to do this weekend! He understands it helps other pets needing homes and it is a positive event you want to feature! All I can say is we were all choked up watching the news clips!!! Go Belle!
